John Thomas is the Director of the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia.  He began his public service career as a teacher and administrator in the Toledo, Ohio public school system.

Since then John has served as director or executive director for a number of public service organizations including the National Association of Counties (NACO), the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), the Florida Association of Counties (FAC), the Toledo Ohio Metropolitan Area Council of Governments, and the Illinois Department of Public Aid where he was assistant to the Director.  He has served in a consultation capacity to a number of governments and organizations. 

John earned his Doctor of Public Administration at the University of Southern California.  He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration, a congressionally chartered organization composed of 400 leaders in the field of public management.

    Andy is the Legal Director of the JustChildren Program at the Legal Aid Justice Center in Charlottesville. In the summer of 2005 he received the national Child Advocacy Award from the Young Lawyer’s Division of the American Bar Association, and in 2007 he received the Virginia Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year award from the Virginia State Bar Association.
