Robert Hurt

Robert Hurt is a native of Pittsylvania County, where he lives and practices law.  Robert received his college education at Hampden-Sydney College in 1991 and his law degree from Mississippi College School of Law in 1995.  He served as the Chief Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for Pittsylvania County from 1996 to 1999.  From 1999 to 2008, Robert was engaged in a general law practice with the firm of H. Victor Millner, Jr. P.C. in Chatham.   On July 1, 2008, Robert opened up his own law practice in Chatham.

In 2001, Robert was elected to his first term in the Virginia House of Delegates, representing parts of Pittsylvania County, Henry County, and the City of Martinsville.  He served six years in the House of Delegates.  In 2007, Robert was elected to the Senate of Virginia representing the 19th District, which includes the City of Danville, Pittsylvania County, Franklin County and part of Campbell County.  Robert serves on the Senate Courts of Justice Committee; General Laws and Technology Committee; and Rehabilitation and Social Services Committee. 

Prior to his election to the House of Delegates, Robert served on the Chatham Town Council.  He is an active member of Chatham Presbyterian Church and Chatham Rotary Club.  In addition, Robert is a member of the Board of Directors of the New College Institute, the Virginia Bar Association’s Board of Governors, the Hampden-Sydney Wilson Center Advisory Board, the John Marshall Foundation Board, and the Board of Directors of Roman Eagle Nursing Home.  

Robert is a graduate of the Sorensen Institute's Political Leaders Program Class of 2000.  

Robert lives in Chatham with his wife, Kathryn, and their three sons, Charles, Clement and John.
