BREAKING NEWS: Let The Sun Shine In
Sorensen graduate, blogger, and columnist for Campaigns and Elections magazine, Waldo Jaquith (PLP 05), in cooperation with the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy, officially presents on January 10 Richmond Sunlight to the Commonwealth. On his blog, Waldo calls it a "Merry belated" Christmas present to the good folks of Virginia.
Nothing short of a revolutionary approach to open government, Richmond Sunlight uses the very latest web technology to "demystify" the inner workings of the General Assembly. Virginians will now be able to track bills and issues, follow the work of their legislators, and get involved in state government in ways that have hitherto been inaccessible to most people. This unprecedented interface continues to put Virginia in the vanguard of efforts to let the sun shine on government. Waldo has even said that the site will evolve to the point where it will be able to track and make known votes that occur in Assembly subcommittees: votes which now go virtually unrecorded and unpublicized.
Congratulations and thanks to Waldo for this wonderful gift to Virginia.
Richmond Sunlight and the recently unveiled Virginia Performs together with the Virginia Public Access Project represent an exciting, positive, and historic new "e-chapter" in the history of Virginia government.
