Dec 13 2005 - 11:06am

The Sorensen Institute is pleased to announce that we have hired three graduates of the College Leaders Program to serve as Youth Program Managers for the 2006 College Leaders Program and High School Leaders Program.

"We are very excited to have these three alumni returning to work with us on the 2006 programs," commented Marc Johnson, Director of Youth Programs. "They each bring a wealth and variety of experience in and knowledge of Virginia politics that will be a wonderful asset to our students next year."

Laura Harris, CLP 2005, returns to the Institute after serving as a Program Manager for the 2005 High School Leaders Program and interning at the Sorensen Institute during the 2004-2005 school year.  A graduate of the University of Virginia, Laura is currently enrolled in the Masters of Public Policy program at George Mason University.  During the academic year she works at Shelter House, a nonprofit in Falls Church that provides programs to promote self-sufficiency for homeless families.  Laura is originally from Gate City, Virginia.

Steven Jones, CLP 2004, will graduate in May from Longwood University with a double major in Communication Studies and Political Science.  Steven has been highly active in politics in Virginia, working on a Gubernatorial campaign, a Congressional campaign, and interning for a State Senator during last year's General Assembly session.  At Longwood, Steven has been Vice President of the Student Government Association and student representative to the Board of Visitors.  Steven originally hails from Richmond.

Chris Wrobel, CLP 2005, also returns to the staff after working as a Program Manager for the 2005 High School Leaders Program.  Chris is currently enrolled at the University of Virginia, where he is double majoring in History and English.  Chris has also worked at the Miller Center for Public Affairs and the Center for Politics.  He is currently interning with the City Registrar in Charlottesville where he has worked on voter registration drives, among other things.  Chris is originally from Arlington, Virginia.

The Youth Program Managers live in residence with our students during the College and High School Leaders Programs each summer, helping ensure smooth operations day to day and providing support for our students.  They also provide insight and feedback on the students' research projects and serve as advisors and mentors.  They are essential to the success of the programs.
