DESCRIPTION
The Chesapeake Climate Action Network is seeking a new Virginia Director to help expand and strengthen the global warming movement in Virginia.  CCAN is the first grassroots, nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to fighting global warming in Virginia, Maryland and DC (www.chesapeakeclimate.org).   Our mission is to educate and mobilize citizens of this region in a way that fosters a rapid societal switch to clean and efficient energy and away from our over-reliance on fossil fuels. 

The Virginia Director will oversee all of CCAN’s operations in Virginia, including budget management and supervising at least 2-3 field organizers. The Director will work closely with our campaign team to fight coal and advocate for clean energy policies in Virginia.   We are looking for a smart, motivated person with great people skills and a passion for global warming. Applicant must have proven experience in community organizing and running successful campaigns. Any experience in political strategy and lobbying a huge plus.

The Virginia Campaign Director’s primary responsibility will be devising and managing Virginia clean energy and global warming campaigns.  Among the Director’s many tasks, he/she will be responsible for training, expanding and organizing CCAN’s volunteer activist base in Virginia, expanding our partnerships, organizing chapters and affiliate groups, and helping lead them towards effective social and political action on global warming. Weekend and evening work is common, so flexibility on hours and days is essential. 

RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Grassroots organizing and membership building
•    Political power-mapping and strategy
•    Coalition building and non-traditional outreach
•    Developing and managing creative actions and events
•    Media outreach and development
•    Policy and strategic planning
•    All facets of state campaign management
•    Staff and office management

QUALIFICATIONS
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Public speaking skills a must!
•    Experience organizing diverse communities and volunteers of all ages.
•    Experience working under deadlines and maximizing use of often limited resources 
•    Campaign experience, knowledge of Virginia’s political landscape, power mapping, building strategy, starting                 movements, and a strong interest in stirring things up.
•    Ability to travel as needed.  Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.  Car a must!
•    B.S or B.A., Masters Degree a plus. 4 to 5 years of work experience in the field. 
 

TIME AND COMPENSATION
Salary is in the low $40,000 range. Benefits include healthcare and a very generous vacation package.  Position is located in downtown Richmond, VA.
