Hooper Joins Tech Govt. Relations Team

Elizabeth Hooper (CLP 2006) recently joined Virginia Tech’s Government Relations team in Richmond as State Legislative Liaison.

She will be responsible for tracking administrative and legislative matters of interest to Virginia Tech and higher education, as well as working with university alumni to increase their understanding of the importance of these issues.

Lockhart Promoted on Capitol Hill

Congratulations to Jamie Lockhart (CLP 2007) for having recently been promoted to Legislative Assistant for Congresswoman DeGette’s office.

Jamie will be handling a range of issues including education, labor, housing, rights (equal, civil, LGBT), science & technology, oversight & government reform, international trade and income security.

Marroquin Will Speak in Arlington

Brian Marroquin (CLP 2009) will be a featured speaker this week at the May meeting of the Arlington Committee of 100, which is Arlington's principal forum for citizen education in local and regional public affairs since 1954. The meetings are regularly attended by Arlington's state & local elected officials and active citizens interested in current public policy issues.

Gilbert Named Female Young Democrat of the Year by VAYD

At the annual Virginia Young Democrats Convention this year, Lauren Gilbert (CLP 2009) was awarded "Female Young Democrat of the Year." The James Madison University College Democrats, under her tenure as President, were also awarded "Club of the Year" in recognition for their year of hard work campaigning in the Valley. Way to go Lauren!

Johnson Accepted to Harris Political Institute

TiffanyAnn Johnson (CLP 2009) was one of 18 students recently accepted to the Grace E. Harris Minority Political Institute, a five-month program designed to develop future leaders in minority and under-served communities.

The program is a joint initiative between Virginia Commonwealth University and the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus.

Mallory Johnson (CLP 2009) has been named a Governor's Fellow for the upcoming summer when she will work with the Secretary of the Commonwealth's office to continue her work on voter restoration rights, a project she began last year with CLP. Congratulations Mallory!
